Jan Winter

Founder, Executive Director

A Kentucky native, Jan is the mother of 23-year-old twins and a professional journalist.  She has formed sports programs for children with disabilities for more than a decade. The Kentucky Children’s Health and Fitness Fund represents the synthesis of Jan’s natural instinct for healthy parenting and her vocation as a communicator. To form the nonprofit organization, she gathered friends and colleagues, dedicated separately to healthy living efforts worldwide, and convinced them to focus on the emergency health crisis facing Kentucky families.

Jan considers her team the best in the business, working professionals dedicated to finding revolutionary tactics to win a war on obesity currently being lost by the majority of Kentuckians. She believes children will naturally choose to do only what they think is fun, eat only what they think is delicious and listen only when the message is entertaining because after all, having FUN is the essence of childhood. She also believes children can find freedom in knowledge, emerging as leaders to bring their families to greater awareness about healthy living and smart choices.

Under Jan’s leadership, members and friends of The Kentucky Children’s Health and Fitness Fund choose to envision a future when every Kentucky child grows up happy, healthy, well-educated and productive.
